Read MoreLiving legend Johnny Osbourne and roots reggae icon Tarrus Riley have joined forces on “We Need Love”, delivering a contemporary reimagining of one of reggae’s most enduring anthems. Originally released in 1979 on Osbourne’s landmark Truths & Rights album, the song was voiced at Studio One over the classic “I’ll Be Around” riddim and has remained a touchstone of conscious roots reggae for more than four decades. This 2025 version, released August 1 via VP Records, offers a fresh interpretation that honors the original while speaking directly to today’s listeners.
Produced by the acclaimed Frenchie of Maximum Sound and mixed by Gregory Morris, the track blends warm, organic instrumentation with a crisp modern mix. Legendary saxophonist Dean Fraser delivers a stirring solo that adds both emotional depth and a classic reggae feel, while Tarrus Riley’s smooth, spiritually-charged vocals intertwine with Osbourne’s unmistakable tone to create a powerful call for love, unity, and righteousness.
“We Need Love” is the first single from Osbourne’s upcoming album Universal Love Showcase, set for release August 29, 2025. More than just a remake, it’s a meeting of two generations of reggae artistry—bridging the roots foundation of the 1970s with the conscious energy of today’s scene. The collaboration captures the timeless message that love is the answer, offering both a celebration of reggae history and a soundtrack for the present moment.
Roots Reggae icon Sizzla teams up with Jamaican sensation Eesah for the sentimental track "Shining Star", a heartfelt anthem produced by the Grammy-nominated Loud City Music in collaboration with DJ and tastemaker King I-Vier.
The riddim is reminiscent of the golden era of 90s and early 2000s reggae, blending conscious, thought-provoking lyrics with uplifting melodies that celebrate the power of love and devotion. Sizzla’s signature fiery passion and Eesah’s smooth, melodic delivery come together to create a timeless track that resonates as a universal anthem for lovers everywhere.
"Shining Star" glows as a beacon of positivity and love, destined to remain a cherished classic for years to come.
Naomi Cowan’s “Cherry On Top” is a playful, empowering anthem from her upcoming album Welcome To Paradise, produced by Toddla T with Winta James and Runkus.

This premiere SoundSystem celebration will be produced by Noble Tobal Productions LLC, based in Willow Creek. Originally from San Francisco, but residing in Humboldt since 2009, the principal producer, “Noble” a single father of three boys, runs a Youth DJ Program in Willow Creek called Vibes Connect. This non-profit organization offers classes and workshops that teach local youth about deejaying and introduction to studio recording.
This unique program also offers Soundsystem events. Last summer, they brought the legendary Channel One Soundsystem from England, Charlie P, among others. “Our music events have a custom-built Soundsystem and are open to the public. Additionally, we offer a youth DJ program in the Hoopa and Willow Creek area to introduce recording and scratching and mixing.” Noble and his main instructor went to an afterschool DJ program together while in their San Francisco middle school… and that’s where they got fired up about this unique genre.
The event is expected to draw 500 Soundsystem lovers and dub reggae fans. When asked about what this festival is all about, for those that are not familiar, Noble responded, “Dub’n the Creek is a reggae Soundsystem event that highlights selectors, vocalists and Dub engineers from around the globe.”
“The world of Soundsystems, dubplates and DJing is a whole other world that we are trying to keep alive…and share with the youth.” Noble says, “The first music I loved was reggae, and being a reggae fan for so long, I ended up learning a lot about the subgenres of reggae music including roots, lovers rock, dancehall, rock steady and others…but when I first heard a Soundsystem in Europe, I was hit in a whole different way by the sound coming out of the speakers. The vibration was potent, and my life was changed.”
This event will be an authentic Soundsystem experience with a heavy-duty reggae dance scene. Noble says, “People will be skanking harder than you have ever seen in your life…Wear your dancing shoes.”
So, what is a SoundSystem?
Soundsystem: A custom-built Soundsystem that is usually run through a preamp with a Selector playing the records and a DJ also known as an MC on the Mic (microphone).
Dub: A musical style that grew out of reggae in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It is commonly considered a subgenre of reggae, though it has developed to extend beyond that style. Generally, dub consists of remixes of existing recordings created by significantly manipulating the original, usually through the removal of vocal parts, emphasis of the rhythm section (the stripped-down drum-and-bass track is sometimes referred to as a riddim), the application of studio effects such as echo and reverb, and the occasional dubbing of vocal or instrumental snippets from the original version or other works.
Preamp - A preamplifier, also known as a preamp, is an electronic amplifier that converts a weak electrical signal into an output signal strong enough to be noise-tolerant and strong enough for further processing, or for sending to a power amplifier and a loudspeaker.
Selector/DJ – The person who plays/chooses the music usually using vinyl records.
Dubplate: A dubplate is an acetate disc usually of 10-inches diameter, traditionally used by studios to test recordings prior to mastering for the subsequent pressing of a vinyl record but pioneered by reggae Soundsystems as a way to play exclusive music. They would later become an important facet of the jungle/drum and bass, UK garage, grime and dubstep music scenes.
