Samory I - Strength (Out Now)

SAMORY I RELEASES HIS ANTICIPATED SOLO DEBUT ALBUM STRENGTH OUT NOW

RELEASED NOVEMBER 17 – Samory I releases his eagerly-awaited solo debut album Strength along with a new video for its single “Outside” feat. Lila Iké, OUT NOW, via Overstand Entertainment and Easy Star Records.

Named after Samory I’s affectionate moniker for his son, Strength is an 11-track storied opus produced by esteemed Jamaican producer Winta James, whose credits include hits with Protoje, Chronixx and Damian Marley.  Samory I said the LP "represents the struggles I’ve overcome, both mentally and physically.” Growing up in Kencot, a rougher neighborhood in Kingston, Jamaica, he faced many adversities and found reggae music as a form of salvation. He used his voice as both an instrument and vehicle for social change in his community. The album is a true reflection of its title, proving that courage and love prevails above all.

He counts his blessings on the album’s latest single “Outside” featuring his native island’s fellow singer Lila Iké.  From a backyard gathering by day to a street party and stadium sneak-in by night, the song’s accompanying video (directed by Aka.Ruppi) vibrantly captures the two artists celebrating life through Kingston, Jamaica. The visual, which arrives today, also features cameos from their musical peers including artists like Mortimer and Protoje and selector Boom Boom.

Over the past year, Samory I has teased us with singles from his forthcoming LP including "Blood In The Streets," "Crown," "Wrath" featuring 2023 Grammy award-winner Kabaka Pyramid and dancehall legend Capleton.  Other guest appearances on Strength include Jesse Royal, and Mortimer.

“Samory I is one of the most important artists of this present era. He’s a Jamaican roots man who holds fast to the Rastafari faith and makes records which are rarely less than essential.” - Echoes Magazine (UK)

Samory I's voice instantly evokes a wide range of emotions. An artist both in tune with the contemporary and appreciative of the classic, his impassioned vocals often carry exalting messages with a spirit of rebellion. He was named after Samory Touré, a successful African ruler who fought against European colonization in the 19th century. Like his namesake, Samory I is a voice for the voiceless with messages of hope, pain, resilience, and love for the people. Samory I plants his feet firmly, grounded and confident, in a new era of roots reggae music where boundaries are limitless. His lyrical consciousness and distinct emotive vocals are resonating with fans across the globe. Samory’s career has been on the rise. Following his rich opus of conscious Rastafarian declarations on Black Gold (2017) and its breakthrough single “Rasta Nuh Gangsta” (with over 10 million views on YouTube and 6 million streams on Spotify), Samory I has landed features on two GRAMMY-nominated reggae albums: Jesse Royal’s Royal (2021) for their collaboration “High Tide or Low,” and Protoje’s album Third Time’s The Charm (2022) for the closing track “Heavy Load.” In 2022, Samory I released “Life Is Amazing” featuring dancehall star Chi Ching Ching, and “Love and Mercy'' off the Gratitude Riddim compilation (produced by GRAMMY-nominated Winta James), which became one of his most streamed tracks to date. Since then, Samory I has continued to work with James, resulting in the release of Samory I's 2023 album Strength.

F.Y.A.H. - "Freedom Fighter" Featuring Steel Pulse

F.Y.A.H., the roots reggae band from Jamaica, makes their debut at New York’s SummerStage on Saturday August 12th, 2023.  The three-piece outfit will also release their first single, “Freedom Fighter” which features Steel Pulse, on August 18th.  The single will be on all streaming platforms on the Dub Rockers / VP Records imprint.

F.Y.A.H. is the latest project of Delroy "Pele" Hamilton, a co-founder, leader, and bassist of the popular Jamaican reggae band Raging Fyah. With three albums, including the GRAMMY-Nominated album "Everlasting" under his belt, Pele decided to dive deeper into music production when the pandemic hit and isolation became the new normal. “I challenged myself to become a better writer, musician, producer and this led to the birth of F.Y.A.H.”

Building familiarity with the roots reggae community, F.Y.A.H. will be on tour with Landan McNamara.  The West Coast tour comprises of 9 dates and will see the band perform in 8 cities in California, and 1 in Nevada.  About the tour, Pele says “we are really looking forward to being on the road and personally connecting with fans.”

Pele's journey to F.Y.A.H has been long and winding, but these experiences have allowed him to create music that resonates deeply with people. "The power of music is when it comes straight from the heart. That's when it truly connects with people. They can feel that vibration," he says. While reggae still remains at the core of F.Y.A.H., Pele also incorporated other genres and influences to create a unique sound that reflects his personal journey and experiences. "I have a deep love for reggae music, but as a musician, I also appreciate other styles. You'll hear those influences in this new F.Y.A.H. project, but at the heart of it all, it's always reggae music. I'm not trying to change that," Pele explains.

Pele collaborated with talented musicians, including guitarist Nicolas Groskopf and vocalist Elton Earlington, to create F.Y.A.H.'s debut album, "Free Your Authentic Heart." This album features a dozen new tracks of roots reggae style with a message of hope, resilience, and love. "I poured my heart into these songs. This is me, not an act," Pele shares.

"Free Your Authentic Heart" is set to be released next year on the Dub Rockers / VP Records imprint.  The band will be touring in support. Pele is excited to share this body of work with the world and continue to create music that reflects his authentic self. “I’m pleased with the result of

the songs,” Pele says. “I’m happy with the consistency and message. I’m ready to deliver this body of work to the world.” More projects from F.Y.A.H. are already in the works so look out!
