Lion - All In This Together

The record is called “ALL IN THIS TOGETHER”, and in Italian it could be translated as "All on the same boat", in the sense, "all in this situation / experience". Not only because the album was completely created and recorded with my band, the Livity band, in the studio and played live all together, but also in a broader sense aimed at humanity. In the last two years we have all found ourselves like the majority of ordinary people to face vicissitudes that have revolutionized, for better or for worse, society and our lifestyle. Nobody could escape this forced change and therefore we faced this change all together.

The album has been entirely realized and made in Italy, showing how reggae music is well produced in Italy: recorded at Cambusa Wave Studio in Reggio Emilia, produced by Bizzarri and played by some of the best musicians of the Italian reggae scene, 'All In This Together' can be considered as the consecration album of Lion D as singer, author and voice of a generation witnessing the growth of reggae music in the underground world and its incorporation into commercial music , somehow losing its original meaning. With this album Lion D proves to be faithful to what reggae music represents and he Is still able to touch souls with his music, fifteen years after the release of his first album.

Fyah Roiall - 9

Fyah Roiall’s second studio album, “9”, produced by Frankie Music, is about the space between the finality of one cycle and another one's possible beginning. Released exactly two years after his first album, the world ‘9’ was created in, feels and looks entirely different than the one Roiall knew before. ‘9’ is about navigating an unpredictable world in limbo (Jeffrey Dahmer); and how being someone that feels their emotions extremely (Anxiety) nor has a safety net to fall into (Aristocrat) can find pain in achieving greatness. Where the fruits of love (La La) and success (Mood) bring more joy but equally more responsibility.

Only by stripping down one's own humility (Naked) & resisting the ever present temptation to rest on one's laurels (Tease) can greatness be maintained (All the above). And by realizing that unpredictableness is omnipresent, the simpler times (1999) feel like good memories and every step thereafter was worth it.

Dre Island - High Times

Dre Island releases his sophomore album 'High Times' with "High Grade Smoke" feat Richie Spice

The multi-talented Jamaican artist Dre Island sets course to elevate mind, body, and soul on his upcoming sophomore album High Times, out now via DubShot Records. Following his 2020 debut Now I Rise, the eight-track LP is a steady burn through life’s most precious moments while being under the influence of marijuana.

Dre explains in greater detail the inspiration behind the album: "It's about living life to the best of its ability, ya nuh, appreciating nature in its purest form. Where the herbs, marijuana is concerned, that is the first inspiration that led me to the whole thought of the album High Times. Just appreciating yourself as a person, as a human being. Just note to self, motivate yourself and stay in that high moment with that high energy with that high soul...each of the 8 tracks speaks individually to different moments of being high, or getting high, or living high...Every single one of the 8 tracks are about MARIJUANA, nothing else but MARIJUANA."  

Dre Island continues to enhance his high, whether it is through love or cannabis,  in this nuanced song collection. The album’s title track featuring dancehall prodigy Skillibeng is a straightforward celebration of simple pleasures—papers and good kush—paired to the sounds of swirling key chords and a thick trap bassline produced by Jafrass. As the album progresses, Dre Island shifts to the upbeat tempo of contemporary tropical dance music on “High With You,” a classic tongue-in-cheek weed anthem alluding that the plant is a close friend. A video for “High With You” is set to be released with the album. “Take Me High” is a slower, more contemplative ode to ganja that reworks Louis Armstrong’s lyrics about “trees of green” into the more smokeable type. Roots reggae legend Richie Spice links up with Dre Island on “High Grade Smoke,” produced by Jamie Roberts. “With a vision so clear, meditation pure, so don’t partake if you’re not really sure,” flows Dre Island as he extols the virtues of the herb, capping it off with a warning label for responsible use only.  Other producers on High Times include Kushface, Green Lion Crew, Che Big 12, Zimi, TJ Records and Tac Dem. 

Dre Island will celebrate his album release in NYC on June 3 at SNS Bar with sounds provided by Federation Sound. On June 5 he has a special performance in Brooklyn at Prospect Park’s Boathouse  + Audubon Center as part of I AM caribBEING’s special event series celebrating Caribbean-American Heritage month. Dre Island’s High Times Summer Tour will pull up to select cities throughout July and August. Dates to be announced at a later date.

With his gravelly vocals and calm demeanor, Dre Island evokes a mystery and edge that gravitates reggae and dancehall fans alike. Complex calls him “one of the most refreshing voices in reggae right now.”  Born Andre Johnson on May 2, 1988, Dre Island hails from the Red Hills Road section of Kingston, a part of town where gunshots and crime are in abundance. At the age of three, his father asked him what he wanted to do when he grew up, his answer was one word “piano!” To avoid Dre turning to the streets, his grandmother nurtured his interest in music. She brought him to church to sing in the choir and take piano lessons. Once introduced to the studio, a young Dre observed keenly the ins and outs of every facet of the recording process, while developing a talent for production using his classical piano training. His superb musicianship and revolutionary vocals have been shaking sound system speakers for several years now. He has become associated with the "reggae revival," a term used to describe a new wave of conscious, spiritually-awakened artists evoking the golden era when foundation reggae artists sang of oppression. Despite heavily embracing the spirit of reggae and Rastafari, he tries to remain genre agnostic.  He turned heads outside of the reggae sphere in 2016, when he teamed up with UK sensation Jorja Smith on the Cadenza-produced track "People" (which was voted Hottest Record In the World by BBC's Radio 1 host Annie Mac) and more recently in 2020 with Wylcef Jean on “Justice,” a rally cry and ode to Ahmaud Arbery. Review: Natty King’s new Rebellution album won’t let reggae fans down

With his ancient, summoning voice, and deeply spiritual lyrics, St Thomas-born Natty King is the archetypal 21st century Rasta reggae singer. He helped carry the 90s conscious resurgence, speared by his inspiration Luciano, into the 2000s, before the rise of Chronixx in the next decade. Natty King first bust onto the international reggae scene in 2005 with his hit No Guns To Town, co-produced by Jimmy Ricks and foundation 70s deejay Trinity (himself part of the wave who carried the Rastafari messages of Big Youth).

Natty King’s self-produced new album, Rebellution – spelled differently from the US reggae band sharing the name – is an unabashed gateway back to the 2000s reggae era. It’s released on Natty King’s New Wellowell label, and co-produced mainly with Sam Gilly, drummer of hardworking Austrian group House Of Riddim (with whom Natty King worked on the 2010s Born To Be Free album). It collects a full CD-length 19 tracks of polished, live-instrument-based roots reggae rhythms, with a consistent sound throughout.

The lyrical topics are very much Natty King’s staples, often arranged in sections to give the album a chaptered feel. The opening segment is one of several devoted to Rastafari spirituality and ghetto reality. The eddying horns of Jah Is My Guide and the hymn-like Hail Rastafari, affirm the central place of Rasta in grounding and protecting Natty King on his journey. Early Morning, a potential successor to No Guns To Town, warns against the dangers of straying into places where such livity is not to be found.
