TORONTO, ONTARIO - 5-time Juno award winner and Canada’s king of reggae, Exco Levi is set to release his new single Champion to a global audience on Friday March 27 th . Produced by Toronto’s Sir KR Moore and executive produced by Jones & Jones Productions, Champion is a siren call to our global village for victory, in the face of adversity. With music at its core, Champion delivers uplifting messages wrapped in vibrant and melodic sounds of hope, affection and solidarity and is a refreshed sound for Levi; one he hopes listeners around the world will connect with. Champion is released on the Jones & Jones Music label and can be purchased on all platforms. Levi will premiere the single LIVE in studio with Dex on G98FM on Sunday, March 29 th at 8pm.

“I’m blessed to be able to do what I am doing”, says Levi. “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything. My latest single Champion is a way of sharing positive vibrations with a sound that is still authentic to my roots.”

Champion comes on the heels of such hits like “Storms of Life”, “Jah Nah Sleep”, “Strive”, the self-love anthem “Bleaching Shop” on the Penthouse label and most recently, “Wah Gwaan” an up-tempo rhythmic selection that’s been making the rounds globally. Exco Levi’s songs have been receiving major airplay by local and overseas DJs for many years. Levi was an Inductee for the City of Brampton Arts Walk of Fame in 2016, Harry Jerome Trailblazer of the Year award winner (2019) and is currently in production for his next studio album.

On a mission to deliver his message to the world, Exco has represented Canada performing on European tours, California’s Reggae on the River, Sierra Nevada World Music Festival, Spain’s Rototom, Jamaica’s Sting and Rebel Salute, JAMBANA™ One World Festival and feature performances in Zimbabwe and Malawi. As a child deejay prodigy, he made the rounds at big Jamaican stage shows like Sting, St. Mary A Mi Come From and Rebel Salute in the mid 2010s, wowing crowds alongside legends like Ninjaman, Capleton and Super Cat. In 2014, he called out foul-mouth deejays; released his debut EP, A Wayne J Enuh; and was featured in our Artists to Watch round-up alongside future stars like Kranium, Alkaline and Jesse Royal.

Today we get to hear from the now 16-year-old artist alongside the versatile singer, deejay and rapper BLVK H3RO on “Original,” a track that’s steeped in dancehall tradition. Inspired by the classic riddims of the 1990s and early Aughts, the tune finds the youthful deejays riding a vintage-style boof-baf instrumental (from producer KraggiBadArt) with the proficiency of seasoned veterans, while paying lyrical homage to dancehall icons and originators from Papa San to King Jammy’s.

“Original” is both BLVK H3RO and Wayne J’s first release through Delicious Vinyl Island, the new Caribbean music imprint from iconic indie label Delicious Vinyl behind a run of solid recent reggae releases from Yaadcore’s “Ready Now” to Royal Blu’s “Style and Pattern.”
