GREEN LION CREW AND MR. WILLIAMZ RETURN
TO COLLABORATE ON NEW ALBUM
‘THE GENERAL COMES TO TOWN’
Maine-based DJ and producer Zeke Stern collaborated with London-based vocalist Mr. Williamz on the duo's latest release THE GENERAL COMES TO TOWN. The album features ten original tracks which echo the unifying energy and infectious grooves of sound system culture.
Stern, who has produced tracks with Collie Buddz, Chronixx, Beenie Man, Kabaka Pyramid, Lee Scratch Perry, and many others, has said that he and Mr. Williamz were inspired to pay tribute to the “rub a dub" style, a sub genre of dancehall music that once set the reggae music scene on fire.
“ I am an avid vinyl collector and I was always inspired by a great cover,” said Stern. “In the early 1980s, a lot of rub a dub LPs had a trend of Spaghetti Western style cover art. The music was bass heavy, stripped down, and laced with effects. This project was heavily influenced by that era of reggae.”
With Stern composing the instrumentals with special guest musicians, Mr. Williamz employs his distinct vocal style to help craft the album’s catchy choruses. Williamz, who relocated from Jamaica to London in his youth, has been a staple of the international reggae scene for close to a decade. After being honored by the BBC as the UK artist of the year in 2008, he released a slew of successful singles which helped Williamz become a household name throughout Europe and in other countries around the world.
On THE GENERAL COMES TO TOWN, Williamz and Stern trade tracks back and forth. Mr. Williamz performs on the odd-numbered tracks on the album. His vocal delivery, memorable melodies, and intimate groove echo the likes of reggae veterans like Super Cat and Nicodemus. Meanwhile, Stern owns the even tracks, answering each Mr. Williamz track with a ‘b-side’. Green Lion Crew presents experimental dub remixes, recycling the beat and taking it to the next level into the realm of psychedelia.
THE GENERAL COMES TO TOWN was released on September 22, 2017. The album features some of the most noticeable players in contemporary reggae music including Addis Pablo (son of Augustus Pablo), Billy Kottage(Reel Big Fish, the Feel Goods), Jay Harris (Soul Rebel Project), Dean Fraser, Lone Ranger, Gappy Ranks, Tony Greene, Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace (from the movie Rockers), Pinchers and Joe Lickshot.

Out of Queens, NY comes an astounding Rocksteady and Ska sound reminiscent of Jamaica in the '60s and '70s. Daptone Records championed its first reggae band, The Frightnrs, and assisted them in releasing their debut, and only, album 'Nothing More To Say'.
In short, this is a fucking great album. It has stayed in my car since the day it was mailed to me. This is easily one of the best records I've heard all year, and surpasses many other artist albums within the genre.
On October 20th, Daptone Records and The Frightnrs released the instrumental and dubbed-out tracks from the album, released as 'More To Say Versions'.
From Distiller Promo:
It's rare for a debut album, especially one in such a polarizing genre like Reggae, to garner the kind of universal fanfare The Frightnrs' 2016 Nothing More To Say received. Mainly because it's a record that transcends genre specific qualifiers and rhetoric that pigeonhole many albums. It is in the truest sense of the phrase, a great record. Shortly after its release a single for "Dispute" was pressed, and like many classic reggae singles, it included a Dub (version) on the B-side courtesy of famed reggae producer Victor "Ticklah" Axelrod. The single was a smash success which in return inspired Axelrod to produce Dub versions for all the songs on Nothing More To Say. The result is More To Say Versions.

The latest single from Digital B's own ace producer turned recording and performing artiste Giark is stealing hearts and AirPlay all over. The track, much like the brand of music he has put out so far like KingSun and So Nice, is soulful in its barest form. The instrumentals are reminiscent of a 90s hip hop/r&b swing, mixed with a kind of easy going and string heavy alternative rock. The vocals sit well like a velvet finish, sprinkled in various, calculated burst of rugged yet soulful melodies.
The content itself is the stuff of great intimacy. It speaks of movement in a reflective, nostalgic way, that doesn't leave out the very gritty parts alluding to the ultimate loneliness of humankind. It speaks of those moments alone when we truly assess and realize that regardless of the love shared withMloved ones, we come into this world alone, and majority of our journey through it takes place alone. If only for the fact that everyone's story is unique and no one may every completely share the same perspectives because of it. Despite these deep undertones the track remains joyful, triumphant and persistent. Produced, written, recorded and performed solely by Giark.
